PHOTOGRAPHS PART 3

In this post I'll be addressing my favorite photographs that I've taken from each city. I'll going to say what I find intriguing in them and explain why I'm going to use. After this I'm going to go straight into drawing stuff to help for theme, and hopefully get some level ideas drawn!

LIVERPOOL

I thought this was interesting and quite strange. It's a small and awkwardly shaped map of Liverpool, and this is vaguely reminiscent of some maps, and indicators within games for people to help navigate the levels. Something like this would be nice to include within the level.

This was a really interesting building I discovered in Liverpool. It was in the middle of one of the main streets and is such a great form of urban decay. I think including buildings that have a similar sense of abandonment, this is due to one of the theme I want to include in the design, which is the difference between higher societies and the lower class citizens. (Also I really liked how the windows looked!)

I think was a really nice church and has some great Victorian architecture. My favorite point of the church is the point at the front (can hardly see it in this photograph). It had some great windows to, and was in general a really good find!

This was also a great building for urban decay, which I think will appear in the level at quite a few points. This would be great if the player would explore such sections.

MANCHESTER

This was a really nice street I found, there is so much going on within each photograph! I really like all the fire escapes I found in Manchester and including such things within the level  would be a great manner for the player to maneuver the levels buildings. I also adore the pipes and vents, these are exactly what I was looking for when I set out on taking photographs. Including these on the side of structures will give them a much more 'steam-punk' style and will hopefully work with the abandoned structures I wish to include.

I really liked the canal that goes through Manchester, and thought something like this would possibly fit within the whole 'steam-punk' theme, and considering I wish to include some kind of port within the city, it might work well! It could also be used to help the player navigate towards a certain direction in case they became lost.

I really liked the view I had from this street, and thought it would be nice to include such things within the level. Small narrow streets could be used for narrative sections, to help 'push' the player through the level.

I found both of these interesting for reason that I've explained above. The first photograph being of a building with old ascetics, and fitting into the Victorian theme. The second photograph is great due to the fire escape!

OVERALL

I enjoyed taking all of the photographs, and now have some okay source material to help me push my work further along. I think I'll have some drawings up at the weekend of how I want the theme and atmosphere to feel.
